Backstage with Jai'Len Josey

No matter what stage she appears on, Jai’Len Josey takes command. Her talent was on full display on Oct. 6, as she started a national headline tour at The Echo in Los Angeles. Stretching cost-to-coast, the tour celebrates her recent debut album Serial Romantic. The 12 songs (and an interlude) cover a wide variety of genres including pop, R&B, rock, and dance music. Each track is a showcase for Josey’s powerful and versatile voice.

Musical Theater fans might know Josey for her role as Pearl Krabs in the Original Broadway cast of SpongeBob SquarePants. For the last several years, she’s been building a solo music career. In 2020, she released her debut EP Ilustrations, which includes the fan favorite “When We Jump.” Her second EP, Southern Delicacy, dropped in 2023.

So far, the most popular song on Serial Romantic is “Won’t Force You,” which blends rock and R&B reminiscent of Miguel or Santigold. Other singles from the album include “Housewife” and “New Girl.”

Just a few minutes before she took the stage, Josey took time out for a quick video interview and photoshoot. After answering a few questions, she did a few stretches, walked down the stairs, and started her set. She was greeted by an enthusiastic crowded, including a front row that knew every word.

Josey’s only has a few shows left (see dates below), but if Serial Romantic is any indication, this won’t be her last big tour.
